Note - students in Honors, AP, and Gifted Classes have some required reading which will be assessed at the beginning of the school year. Find the page for your grade and level in the pull down menu above.
1) Students are encouraged to explore their own reading interests and to read materials on their emotional and intellectural level. 2) Students are encouraged to plan opportunities to discuss and share summer reading with their pers. 3) PARENTS are encouraged to monitor their son/daughter's reading and to read with him/her.

Students may choose any book - the book does not have to be recommended. The recommendations are optional
We encourage students to choose a challenging book. Many recommendations are listed below and throughout the web site. The site also gives students LINKS to other good lists of books for young people, like the ALA site above. Students who read 3 - 6 books will receive a certificate. Students who read 6 or more books will receive a certificate and will have their names posted to celebrate their accomplishment on the Mighty Lion Pride Bulletin Board. Teachers will have the prerogative to give students extra credit for the extra reading.
To prove that he/she has read a book, a student must turn in a READING LOG for each book (see Reading Log page - drop down menu)
