English II, Advanced Placement 2008-09
Evaluation
1) Keep a handwritten (no typed or computer generated) journal as you read. The minimum you must have in your journal would be a short summary for each chapter and a list of major characters. If you prefer not to stop your reading to journal, we recommend that you purchase your own book and highlight the important parts; then later you can summarize these parts in your journal.
2) We will discuss the reading, and you will take a test during the first weeks of school on each book you've read. The tests will be primarily objective - true/false, matching, multiple choice. The discussion part of each test will give you several questions with choice as to which you will answer.

Because our goal is for each student to read 6 books or more during the summer, we encourage you to continue reading books of choice (see Choice for All page - pull-down menu) after you've fulfilled the requirement for Eng. II AP - rewards & extra credit will await you next school year along with better performance in your classes and on standardized tests like the GEE or the ACT.
If you read from the choice list, you must maintain a reading log, the questions for which are located on the “Reading Log” page in the pull-down menu.
English II Advanced Placement students are expected to read one novel from each list.
